In September of 2011, Adam and I took James and headed down to Jacksonville Beach Fl for the 2nd annual Surfers for Autism event!
We had a GREAT time!
We checked into our hotel,
(which was at an awesome discounted rate for the event!!)
We then went down to the beach to get James checked into the event!
The Surfers are all volunteers, which is amazing! That many people come out to help our kids have a great day is just so awesome!
We hung out and did some swimming until it was time for his group to go into the water :)
James was such a little stud, he was picked to kick off his groups surf time!
Once its your groups turn, your surfers come and try and go over some moves before they go into the water together.
He was such a little FLIRT!
They did there best to make James feel comfortable out there, he isn't a fan of water being splashed in his face...so ocean water doing that was no help. He seemed to enjoy it at first, but one hard fall and he wasn't interested in the surfing part anymore.
We tried again for a little bit but just decided it would be best for James if we let him take a break.
Luckily, Surfers for Autism is more then just Surfing!
There are plenty of booths with fun stuff to try, and fun stuff to do!!
We each got a Surfers for Autism Shirt!
Mellow Mushroom provided lunch...and that's our FAVORITE pizza!
We hung out back and fourth between the Hotel pool and the ocean...ocean front is soooo awesome cause you get all sandy from the beach...then you just hop in the pool and rinse off!!
James had no problem drawing a crowd...of girls!!
Adam decided on the last day to give surfing a try!!
It was a beautiful trip...we are gonna make Surfers For Autism our family vacation every year! It was a great way to meet new people, try new things and have a fun time as a family!
