Sea Turtle Release

TheTybee Island Marine Science Center is
located next to the pier on Tybee Island Beach

Every year the Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project releases Loggerhead Sea Turtle patients back to the ocean!
The patients can are in the Marine center being rehabilitated for a number of reasons..but after one year they are returnted to the big blue!

James takin a picture of me taking a picture of him...

Poor guy it was so bright!

Me and James

We went over towards the shore and there was a huge line of people
on each side of yellow tape..they created a path to bring the
turtles down and place them into the Ocean.

The way they did this was so NEAT.
They carried the Sea Turtles down one side of the roped off path,
then up the other side to everyone was able to see them up close!

They released two small turtles first...

Each Sea Turtle has a tracking device on its body, once they were sure
the turtles were far enough out, they went and got the 2 larger turtles.

James was not a fan of waiting in between turtles...

They carried the large Sea Turtles around the ropes for everyone to
see as well..took 5 people!
Then they released the
2 large Loggerhead Sea Turtles into the Ocean

Goodbye "Polar" and "Star"
enjoy your new found life in the beauty of Gods Ocean

........after the turtle release it was onto the Mayhughs first visit to the beach in over a year!

So this year at the beach not only did we see Sea Turtles,
we also saw Hermit Crabs in the hundreds, large crabs, small fish, and
what we thought was a Sting Ray until closer inspection and a fellow
Georgian picked it up and showed us it was a Horseshoe Crab.
and last but not least "Stinger Free Jellyfish"

....Yes these are pics of James holding a Real Jellyfish!

He would have kept these if id let him..he LOVED THEM!
We had a blast at the beach!

J.F Gregory Easter Extravaganza

I saw a flyer for an Easter egg hunt at the park near our house in which the Boy Scouts were going to hide 25,000 Easter eggs
...who could say no to that!!

The eggs were EVERYWHERE!
They broke the kids up into age groups
they had a roped off area of eggs for that
age group.

Once we found our area we waited until they gave the
GO!..

Adam did a GREAT job of helping James get around
the crazy amount of kids and parents.

James was sometimes distracted by the eggs in his basket
..and not by the thousands in front of him!
I read a quote once about Autism, it said:

"Autism is like seeing every tiny detail in a leaf
..but not seeing the tree"

Right after the egg hunt we went of and got some hot dogs and soda..nothing like free lunch on a hot day!

we also were able to sneak in and get a picture with the
Easter Bunny before the line was too long!

He was so happy!!

And what would it be if we didn't let him jump in the bouncy house,
he began singing "ring around the roses" and he had
all the kids in there singing it and falling down!! LOL

It was a great day!

I love this park, I love Richmond Hill for that matter.
Its such a small town, a very everyone knows everyone
kind of town. In fact we ran into a couple we were friends with
when we were stationed in Texas, they went to the same
church we did..small world!

Easter Egg Hunt at the Bamboo Farm

Living Independence for Everyone, Inc. (LIFE), an independent living center serving people with disabilities in an 11-county area including Chatham, hosted its FIRST EVER talking Easter egg hunt.

The hunt featured Chatham County’s very first battery-powered plastic eggs that talk, laugh, and make noise as children hunt for them. Once opened, a cute bunny or baby chick is revealed that exclaims,
    “You found me!”

The talking eggs were purchased from Braillegifts.com with a grant from the Fragile Kids, a foundation that helps purchase critical rehabilitation equipment and quality of life enhancing products for special needs children. Through the acquisition of the talking eggs and making them available for rent to the community, LIFE furthers its mission of leveling the playing field for people with disabilities in order to create a world in which EVERYONE can fully participate.

James Had an absolute BLAST! The path was decorated with flowers to guide the kids to where the eggs were.
He got a kick out of the talking eggs!

Once he saw the Easter bunny he really
didnt care about the egg hunt anymore..he just wanted to be
with the Easter Bunny!

We went to give him a hug and he was so happy!!

!!Happy Easter!!
